House Approves Bipartisan Bill To Block Damaging EPA Regulations

Alexandria, Va. – The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity today commended Chairman Fred Upton and the U.S. House of Representatives for approving legislation that would prevent EPA from regulating greenhouse gas emissions from stationary sources. The House vote comes just one day after a bipartisan group of 64 U.S. Senators voted in favor of one or more amendments to prevent or limit EPA’s greenhouse gas regulations.

“Today’s vote, coupled with yesterday’s action in the Senate, underscores the bipartisan concern in Congress that EPA’s regulations could hurt our economy and destroy jobs,” said Steve Miller, president and CEO of ACCCE. “EPA’s regulations could make electricity move expensive during a time when Americans already struggle with high energy prices.”

The bill approved by the House would only eliminate EPA’s authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. The bill would not affect other provisions of the Clean Air Act that have been in place for years to protect public health.

“We thank Chairman Upton for his leadership, and the Republicans and Democrats in the House who voted for this critical legislation,” said Miller. “We urge the Senate to pass similar legislation as soon as possible, and for President Obama to reconsider his threat to veto this economically important bill.”
