As vice president for program services, working out of the office of the president and CEO, Ned backs up ACCCE senior management in state affairs, national affairs and communications concerning the use of coal in electricity generation. His focus is on clean coal technology development, including carbon dioxide capture, storage, transportation and beneficial use.


Ned joined the Center for Energy and Economic Development as associate vice president for policy in March 2005 and continued in that role when, in early 2008, CEED and Americans for Balanced Energy Choices were folded into a single organization called the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity. In October 2008, he was promoted to vice president for technology policy. He assumed his current position in January 2010.


His background includes 24 years managing communications and advocacy programs for Western Fuels Association, a national fuel supply cooperative for consumer-owned electric utilities. Prior to that, he was responsible for energy, environmental and natural resource issues for Senator George McGovern (D-S.D.) from 1977 – 1980. Between 1974 and 1977, he directed public information for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Missouri-Oahe [oh-wah’-hee] Projects Office in Huron, South Dakota. Upon graduation from South Dakota State University in 1973, he was news director at KIMM Radio in Rapid City. He put himself through college working as a commercial DJ at KBRK-FM in Brookings, South Dakota.
